Boost Your Property, Wallet, and Community With SOMAH Solar!

SOMAH has a $100 million annual budget through 2032 and aims to install 300 MW of solar statewide.

  • Up to 100% of installation costs covered when combined with tax credits and SOMAH incentives.
  • Lower and stabilized common area energy costs, reducing operating expenses.
  • No-cost technical assistance (feasibility studies, financial modeling, contractor bid support).
  • Compliance with California clean energy mandates and alignment with sustainability goals.
  • Enhanced property value and marketability—solar makes properties more attractive to tenants and investors.
  • Tenant satisfaction and retention—tenants save $30–$80/month on average, improving affordability.
  • Community goodwill and workforce development—contractors provide paid job training for local residents.

Tenants also benefit, with guaranteed bill credits and no rent hikes. It’s clean energy with community impact.

As of the latest update, the SOMAH (Solar on Multifamily Affordable Housing) Program has supported:

  • 773 projects
  • Serving 56,368 tenant units
  • With 149.9 megawatts of reserved and installed solar capacity

This data reflects completed and reserved projects and is updated quarterly by the program administrators.

This is a first-come, first-served opportunity, and we strongly encourage Tribal Nations, Public Housing Agencies, Governmental Housing Agencies, and Affordable Housing providers to take advantage of these resources before funding runs out.
